Losing Sight of Shore

Feature documentary — Four women. An unsupported row across the Pacific.

The situation

Losing Sight of Shore follows four women attempting to row unsupported across the Pacific Ocean from California to Australia.

The production challenge was unlike almost anything else we had worked on. For long stretches of the journey, the subjects were thousands of miles from land, with no traditional field crew alongside them. At one point, the closest other humans were the astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

What we did

Turn Card executive produced the feature documentary, directed by Sarah Moshman, helping support the production, editorial and logistical demands of telling a deeply human story under extraordinary conditions.

With no conventional crew embedded with the rowers, the film depended on careful planning, trust and a production approach built around capturing authentic moments as they happened, then shaping that material into an emotional, cinematic narrative.

What it proved

Meaningful documentary storytelling does not depend on having a camera crew standing next to the subject.

Losing Sight of Shore proved that with the right producing, planning and editorial instincts, even the most remote and logistically challenging stories can still feel intimate, immediate and profoundly human.
